Residency Special Features:   This program, located in a brand new, state-of-the-art facility, provides residents with specialized skills focused on the provision of comprehensive pharmaceutical care. Inpatient clinical rotations include internal medicine, family practice, neurosurgery, infectious disease, pediatrics, neonatology, orthopedics, critical care, emergency medicine, pain management, and nutritional support. Ambulatory care pratice consists of active participation in patient care at the family health centers as well as at a busy anticoagulation clinic and an HIV clinic. The residents serve as preceptors for senior pharmcy students and give frequent lectures to medical and nursing staff. The adminstrative component, integrated throughout the duration of the program, focuses on cost containment, purchasing, finance, and personnel management. Residents have individual cubicles in an office with computerized access to drug information users. They are active participants in the P & T committee, as well as other committees within the facility.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   Must be competent in all areas of clinical pharmacology, infectious diseases, and pharmacokinetics, prior to entering the program. Must pass California State Board examination.

Site Special Features:   ARMC, an acute care teaching hospital, has one of the largest family practice programs in the United States. The medicine teaching program is affiliated with Western University for Health Sciences and Loma Linda medical schools. The totally computerized pharmacy provides centralized unit dose, i.v. additive, and Drug Information System programs. Residents will serve as a preceptor for pharmacy students and have considerable teaching and consultative responsibilities to the family practice residents with special emphasis on infectious diseases, pharmacokinetics, and internal medicine.
