Residency Special Features:   The San Joaquin General Hospital Pharmacy Practice Residency is designed to provide a solid foundation in pharmaceutical care, while focusing on basic principles of personal and professional leadership. SJGH is a county-run teaching hospital with medical residency programs in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine and General Surgery. Residents work as an integral part of teaching teams in the delivery of patient care. Core rotations include Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Critical Care, Infectious Disease, and Cardiology. Residents also participate in pharmacist-managed anticoagulation, heart failure, and diabetes clinics throughout the entire year. The development of teaching skills is emphasized, and residents are involved in precepting pharmacy clerkship students from the University of the Pacific and provide didactic lectures to both pharmacy students and medical staff throughout the year.

Special Requirements for Acceptance:   Applicants must submit a curriculum vitae, a letter of intent, three letters of recommendation, official transcripts, and a professional writing sample. Candidates must be eligible for licensure in California.

Site Special Features:   SJGH is located in the Central Valley of California, just south of Stockton and about 10 minutes from University of the Pacific. San Francisco and the Sierra Mountains are both within a short drive. Residents' training is given a high priority and the program is carefully organized to optimize learning. In addition to core clinical skills, special emphasis is placed on teaching, time management, and drug use management. The hospital's close affiliation with the Health Plan of San Joaquin provides an excellent opportunity to develop managed care skills.
